This trail is shared with licensed dual-sport motorcycles (and snowmobiles, if you happen to like snow). The upper portion of this trail is relatively relaxed. However, the vertical drop section has all the "benefits" of a washed out river -- lots of rocks and, even better, sections of deep sand to keep things really interesting.
The preferred route to the tasty singletrack of
Link Trail is the lower dual-sport trail, leading from the parking lot. If you want to skip the climb up Sand Mountain Road, this is a great place to park to explore the trails on the southern side of Bald Eagle Mountain. A nice route is from the Parking Lot >
Link Trail (nice!) >
Faust Valley Trail > Old Peat Bog Loop -- especially the upper section leading to Wildcat, which is also a grin inducing trail at the ridge.
Worth noting is that The Raven 2013, had special permission from PA DCNR to utilize an unauthorized section at the very top, from Sand Mountain Road. This upper section is NOT an approved trail and DCNR will be displeased if you use this upper section!
