Overview

This is one of the few easy/beginner mountain bike rides in the Saint George area. It features easy climbing and descending on relative smooth doubletrack and wide singletrack. Highlights include great scenery, historic farms, and a 1958 movie set. This loop can be added to Prospector/Church Rocks/Dino Cliffs for a 20+ mile ride.

Need to Know

Watch for goat head puncture weeds if riding in from the White Reef parking and trailhead. Avoid the McMullin and Cordura trails, and stay on the White Reef Trail to avoid goat heads.

Description

To get to the trailheads, exit I-15 at Leeds and follow the signs to the Red Cliffs Recreation Area. After crossing under the freeway go right at the "T" for the White Reef parking area, or left for the Adams historic home parking area. I mapped it from the Adams home because it is just an extension of the Prospector trail from this end, and has a fun bridge crossing over Leeds Creek.

The trail and historic sights are well marked. From the Adams historic home parking lot ride west on the paved road for about 100 yards to where the Prospector trail crosses the road. Go right onto Prospector and follow it a short distance down the hill, then go left onto the Adams trail. Follow Adams to White Reef, and go left. Follow White Reef to the ADIT connector. The ADIT intersection is signed, but is a little confusing. The ADIT sign and trail is at the base of a doubletrack switch back. At the ADIT sign turn right off of the doubletrack onto a faint singletrack. This is a good trail that takes you to the Leeds Reef descent. Go right onto Leeds Reef trail and follow it back to the White Reef trail and return to your car.

History & Background

There is a lot of history in this area. Early european settlers, A 1958 movie set, a once prosperous silver mining area (with a checkered past), dinosaur tracks, and of course native americans. If western history is your thing, do a little research before visiting this area.
