Description

After leaving Foxx Rocks you immediately punch up a tightly switch-backed rock knob. You need some serious mountain goat skills to make the top. Then it's a short steep descent back down, very close to the point where you first left Foxx Rocks. The trail peels SE though, and you quickly encounter a very rocky/armored decent (pictured). Keep some momentum to roll over the chunky stuff. Next, you roll out onto open singletrack traversing the hillside overlooking the Haines Road valley before climbing back off into the woods. A few short pedaling sections tie together several steep, rocky descents until you finally bottom out on flat soil near (but not quite at) Skyline Parkway (paved road). Down on this flat spot, the trail whips back around and you begin your difficult ascent. The climbing includes some tight turns, with technical rock features along the way. After you climbed hard for a few minutes you come to the top of a rock knob from which the trail drops down an extremely steep (feels vertical), narrow crack in a tall rock face (maybe 12' high). Ride through some chunky, but more level rock and you're nearly finished. You'll end back on Foxx Rocks, just slightly east of where you left it (to get back to where you started, go left).
