Description

No matter which direction you go, you are challenged with some climbing. The trail on the northern side is VERY rocky, especially the bottom third which is the most challenging. It is marked by 7 switchbacks and is a pretty lengthy climb. The trail on the southern side is less rocky and shorter distance-wise, but is steeper overall and fairly loose with gravel/sand. It also has many gullies and washouts, so take caution when descending.

The trail on top which connects Emerald Park and Fort Roots is paved and has many scenic overlooks of the Arkansas River, the state Capitol, and downtown Little Rock.
