This a snowbiking loop on Emerald Mountain that traverses some Nordic trails, and many snowshoe/fat bike singletrack trails.
Head up the Bluffs Loop
, this is a nice climb up that gently goes up and down around a bench above the Yampa River. Continue on to the Overlook Trail
(a short and easy extension) on the groomed nordic trails, near Ricky's Ridge
stay on the groomed nordic trail to the start of Lupine
(If you are not familiar with the trails, try the MTB Project MTB Project mobile app
to find the start Lupine
is a fun, gentle and interesting climb, at the top of Lupine
you'll meet up with Little Moab
trail, at this point, take the short drop onto Blackmere Road
(which is generally groomed) for the climb to the quarry overlook at the top of Little Moab
After enjoying the views, head back down Blackmere Road
, about 50 yards or so, then duck onto Blair Witch
trail. This trail boasts some easy, flowing contour riding as well as a long boardwalk feature that may be buried under the snow.
At the end of Blair Witch
, take a hard right onto Prayer Flag Trail
, follow this down approximately 1/2 mile to the top of MGM
From the top of MGM
(near a watering trough), wind down through aspens on singletrack (do not take the MGM to Larry's Connector
), stay on MGM
until just before you break out into an open meadow.
Take another hard right onto Eye to Eye
( Eye to Eye
branches to the right off MGM
) which winds back and forth in a serpentine pattern with tons of switchbacks the whole way down.
At the bottom of Eye to Eye
, you'll pop out onto the end of MGM
which leads to Orton's Meadow. As you enter Orton's Meadow, follow Orton Trail
to Blackmere Road
Take a right at Blackmere Road
and climb about 3/4 mile back to a saddle, cross the saddle to a short downhill which puts back at the beginning of Lupine
, from here you can then follow your route back to the bottom or take any (steeper) snowshoe/ fat bike trails that will all end at the parking lot.
