Overview

Great views from the Owens Valley, the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the west and the White Mountains to the east. The trail itself isn't pretty, but it is close to the town of Bishop. The ride is mostly dirt road and doubletrack. The downhill near Pleasant Valley Reservoir is steep and a bit rocky. The dirt road can get windy and may have some whoop-de-doos.

Need to Know

From Bishop, take State Highway 6 north to Five Bridges Road, then take a left. Proceed on Five Bridges Road 5 miles until it turns into a dirt road. At the entrance to the area, there is a BLM kiosk that provides map and route information for the Tablelands.

The trail and road are a bit sandy so you'll be pedaling pretty much the whole time.

Description

The ride starts with a 6-mile, 2% uphill on Casa Diablo Rd. At the power lines, you'll head left for a 7-mile ~2% downhill. You'll take a short ~12% downhill to Chalk Bluff Road which will bring you back to your starting point.

History & Background

The Volcanic Tablelands is a vast volcanic landscape that was formed over 700,000 years ago by materials spewing from the Long Valley caldera, located to the northwest.
