Family Friendly This easy trail has a mellow grade and is not technical. It's fun for all levels of rider!

Overview

Easy smooth climbing from the Big Sky resort base, with a long descent for the payoff, swooping through steep hillside spruce forest, with banked turns and a few sharp switchbacks to keep you on your toes, finishing with a ride on the roads along the nordic trail system with views of the Middle Fork, all the way to Town Center. Watch your braking around the switchbacks which are getting hit hard with lots of traffic.

Need to Know

Take the Big Sky shuttle bus, with bike rack, up to the resort base area, or drive a shuttle car. There is a climbing trail to parallel the descent in the planning stages.

When Ramcharger lift is open expect moderate to heavy downhill traffic on the climb. Big Sky Resort is currently working on a trail to separate uphill and downhill traffic on this section, but for now everyone is sharing.

Description

From the Big Sky Resort base area, look for signs to Upper South Fork trail, which heads up a gentle access road under the Ramcharger lift. After less than half a mile, turn left, following the signs on a new machine-built gentle climb. The trail tops out across the Bighorn ski run and exits the ski area boundary to start the rollicking, flowy, and grin-inducing descent. Watch your brakes on the switchbacks to prevent further erosion.

Upper South Fork Trail ends on the Autumn Trail Road. To return to the town center, follow the pavement on Autumn Trail Road for 0.25 miles and turn right on to Andesite Road. Follow Andesite Road to through the subdivision all the way to the town center.

I have a hardtail 29er and got bounced around a lot. Many of the sharpest turns weren't bermed. 9mi
