This trail is one of the favorite loops in the system! The trail makes a loop off of Garden Brook Trail
and choosing which direction to do it in is a flip of the coin.
From the east end, ridden counter-clockwise, this trail is a harder, steeper, albeit shorter, climb. After heading west from trailhead #1 on the Copper Harbor Loop and getting on Garden Brook Trail
, start at intersection #4 and begin climbing along the south face of Brockway Mountain. This is a long, sustained climb with multiple switchbacks to help traverse the steep face of the ridge. The trail is hard-packed, with some exposed bedrock with great traction.
This is a great exercise route for building endurance and climbing techniques. It is a shorter climb than going the clockwise direction and it gives you the most fun for your descent back to the Garden Brook Trail
. After the climb, you hit the mostly level top of the trail and head west, rolling along the trail at good speed. Take a break for a couple of great views and appreciate what you just did by looking out over all that you are above.
This section of trail has options to get onto three other trails ( Flying Squirrel
, On The Edge
Trail) all of which give you amazing downhill rides. Continue on Woopidy Woo past the start of the Danimal
Trail headed west, and you'll start the descent back to the west end of the Garden Brook Trail
at intersection #10.
This section of trail is a flow style trail and has multiple tight, banking berm turns and swooping descents. This is a blast! Get to the intersection and either go uphill on the Garden Brook Trail
towards the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge or head downhill back towards town.
For a new experience, you can always turn around and ride the trail in the other direction!
