A three-mile descent from the top of the Garbanzo Lift along a machine-built doubletrack. Blue Velvet is one of the longest and quickest options to the zone below and is a popular favorite - as is evidenced by the heavy brake bumps that develop almost immediately after the trail opens for the season.
At the top, Blue Velvet eases into things with smooth berms on the way down to cross over Upper Freight Train
on a large bridge. There are a few tabletop jumps to play with as the trail accelerates to the next intersection where it briefly merges with Original Sin
before continuing downhill to the right.
Steep berms and high-speed straightaways continue to accelerate riders down the trail. You'll likely start getting a taste of the brake bumps here. Cross over some ski runs, and the trail dives back into the trees for a well-benched side hill that heads for a large wooden wall ride. It's pretty fun and overall supportive, but the exit quickly funnels down to a much narrower bridge.
Blue Velvet comes back out into a gravelly clearing next to the Bear Cub Road
beneath the end of Original Sin
. If you end up taking a break here, you may see people dropping into some impressive rock-rolls just up the hill. When you're on the go again, the trail sweeps beneath the road and follows a series of tight berms that switchback down through the trees.
Hang a right on the next road and either follow the signs to the right for In Deep
or continue straight on the Blue Velvet Connector
. If you headed right, the trail quickly sweeps past the entrances to In Deep
and Captain Safety
before quickly meeting back at a group of ski run signs. A small choose-your-line rock slab follows before the doubletrack banks up against a cool rock wall ride.
The trail continues to work down through the trees and across ski runs, making use of a few easy bridges. This section of open trees, jumps, and optional features is quite enjoyable! The final section follows a fast and open corridor that has similarities to Crank It Up
as riders speed flat-out to the bottom with a few step-ups and deep berms.
Located in the Garbanzo Zone, Blue Velvet ends on Expressway
just above the bottom of the Garbanzo Lift.
