One of the newer additions (9/2015) to the Hartman Rocks trail system, Graceland is best ridden in a clockwise direction, but flows well either way.
From its start across from Gateway
, the trail descends slightly through tight sagebrush as it winds through and around massive rock formations. These are fun, semi-technical sections that you'll experience throughout this trail and the Hartman Rocks trail system.
After this initial descent, the trail heads directly east up a draw. This slight ascent becomes a little steeper once the trail heads north, switchbacking up the hill. Near the top, you'll pass High Five
, which would be a fast, fun descent from here. But, because you're smart and fit, you're going to stay left and continue ascending.
Once at the trail's high point, after passing Cat's Castle
, the trail descends on super-fun, very flowing trail. You can tell this is a new trail as the berms haven't set, but it'll only get better with time!
From the bottom of the trail, you'll head south, climbing a scenic sagebrush-filled wash. Continue past High Five
(unless you want to loop this again...) and you'll climb all the way to the end of Water Treatment
. This last section of trail is very scenic, especially in late-May when the wildflowers are popping!
