This route follows the boundary of the park which makes it a great option to introduce yourself to the area. The route will show you much of what Jones Park has to offer: creek crossings, rocks, roots, mud, technical climbs and a scattering of man-made obstacles. The route is about three miles long with about 500 feet of climbing and takes a bit less than an hour to complete. Also, the route can be done in reverse but is best started via the Creek Trail
Park anywhere in the gravel lot. Most locals prefer to start via the Creek Trail
, which is located behind the big blue shed. You'll come across many different trails but when in doubt, keep left. After riding up the creek for a ways, you'll turn right when the creek forks. When you come to doubletrack, go right to the top of the hill then left to keep climbing.
The pump-track like Donkey Kong
trail that is included in the route is easy to skip if you're looking to shorten the ride. Keep climbing up The Mud Flats
singletrack. Eventually, you'll come to a pipeline and the singletrack runs parallel to this. Then the trail descends into the creek on the High Road
and up the other side on Toby
. Cross over the Service Road
doubletrack to keep climbing.
After a series of switchbacks on Outer Limits
, you'll begin to descend. This trail is technical. Rocks, roots and mud are abundant but local builders are working to create features that make the trail drier. When you reach the bottom, turn left and ride out on Upper Creek Trail
into the clearing. Many other trails begin and end here; it's the heart of Jones Park.
If you look around you can find the old chimney. Turning left after entering the Service Road
doubletrack will take you back towards the parking lot. You'll come to a fork in the doubletrack and you want to take the right one. Enjoy the smooth, fast descent into the parking lot. But watch out for the gate and hikers!
The area is old farm land. Leftovers can be found all over.
