Cattail Pond DH, part of Valley View Loop
, and part of Harrier Trail
are fun singletrack trails. If you're looking for technical singletrack, check out Brushy Peak Main Loop
also in Livermore. Otherwise, if you're looking for mellow singletrack, Sycamore Grove Singletrack Sampler is perfect for you.
From the parking lot, take the Arroyo del Valle Regional Trail
paved trail for 0.1 miles. Then, turn onto Winery Loop
. Continue straight on the flat and crowded fire road for around 0.8 miles. Soon, there will be a steep hill on the left. Pedal up this and continue on Wagon Road Loop
. You'll notice the crowds disappearing and will pass by only a few people, even on busy weekends.
At the next fork, continue straight on Meadowlark Loop Trail
for an easy climb. Proceed straight to Cattail Pond and turn on Cattail Pond Loop
. Make sure to climb up the fire road (wide) instead of the singletrack (narrow), the singletrack is more fun and harder of a climb. Once you get to the top of the hill, turn left to get to a viewpoint. Enjoy the view, and then turn around and head straight toward the singletrack. Take a left and experience a few minutes of fast and smooth Cattail Pond DH.
At the bottom, turn right, then straight onto Wagon Road Loop
again. Continue on it, until you get to a fork with Valley View Loop
. At this point, climb the steep hill (kids may have to walk their bikes) and enjoy more singletrack at the top. Make sure you don't miss the connector on the left, though!
It is unmarked, but leads to Harrier Trail
, a marked singletrack.
Go past the gate and follow the trail straight. There will be a fork. Take the trail straight, and it will drop down and turn to the left. You'll then get to an extremely quiet bench. Then, head straight and take a left turn to get back at the short fork. Pass through the gate once again, and turn right to go down a fast and bumpy singletrack.
At the bottom, turn right on Wagon Road Loop
once again. Follow this to Walnut Trail
. Take Walnut Trail
and connect to Wagon Road Loop
. Then, head back to the car on the trails taken from the start.
